A few weeks ago, Golden had the privilege of refreshing guests at the first performance of Speed is Emotional in Q Theatre’s Loft space. The season was produced by Barbarian Productions and presented by Silo Theatre, two companies we admire for their commitment to bold New Zealand creative works.
Golden backs creative projects with a clear purpose and a strong local voice. Jo Randerson’s new work fits both briefs. The show candidly examined the exhilaration, exhaustion and joy of living and parenting with neurodiversity, presenting themes that resonate across Aotearoa’s diverse communities.
Over an intense 80 minutes, Randerson bared their soul, weaving sharp observations and poetic fragments into comedy that moved beyond labels. Reviewers praised the piece for its energy, honesty and finely tuned craft. The production design, directed by Isobel MacKinnon with a multidisciplinary team, matched the pace with quick lighting shifts and punchy sound cues.
We back creative projects that push New Zealand forward. If you are curating a launch, exhibition or live performance and need a locally made, better for you beverage partner, email queen@staygolden.co.nz.
